The Vision

                     Create-live-play-connect

Imagine: Imagine living in a beautifully designed, friendly

neighbourhood within walking distance of the Denmark's

CBD.

An eco-village with optimised sustainability. Rainwater, solar power, grey-water, well insulated, passive solar design; aiming to put 'heart' into urban living using ecologically sustainable principles.

Your home is thoughtfully laid out; it is small but spacious, light, airy, warm and it is self-contained with its own private court yard garden. There are footpaths and walkways leading through common gardens to a common-house and other shared facilities. Car parking is located on the perimeter of the community away from the living centre. Welcome to Deco-Village.

By a small group of people collaborating to build simple, beautiful homes with some shared spaces and facilities it is possible to create truly liveable housing in a safe and friendly neighbourhood. The houses are designed and built with the assistance of professional services such as planners, architects, builders and accountants who are guided by the residents.

Co-housing, or collaborative housing as it is sometimes known, consciously aims to bring about strong community through purposeful design. Deco-Village has small homes for a range of ages and family groupings, aiming to strike a balance between the need for private space and shared common areas. By sensitively linking private homes and small private gardens to common spaces and facilities, cohousing fosters spontaneous social cohesion, not unlike living in a vibrant, friendly street or neighbourhood. A strong community grows with productive gardens that are beautifully maintained and from shared meals and gatherings in a large, well resourced common house.

We no longer have to live in badly designed

houses on big blocks with fences for neighbours,

or move out of town on to isolated rural blocks

of land that keep us forever busy mowing and

weeding and cleaning gutters.

By carefully grouping homes and using the best building materials, co-housing aims to provide acoustic, visual and spacial privacy for all. It allows for all ages and special-needs accommodation, particularly aging in place, but it also aims to meet the needs of young people and families who benefit from safe and caring environment.

There are hundreds of co-housing developments around the world, usually comprising 8-25 homes. Most people own their own home, via a Strata Title but some homes are rented or leased. Homes are usually built as a “grouped dwelling” development in order to achieve economies of scale and unity in design.

Forty years of experience with co-housing developments point to the benefits of maximising the size and functions of the “common-house” and shared facilities. The common-house will have guest accommodation, music and theatre rooms, workshop spaces, library and large indoor outdoor dining facilities for shared meals and events.

Co-housing eco-village projects start with a shared vision that is built around people’s needs, hopes and dreams. We aim to achieve our goals through an ethical and practical community enterprise. If you share this vision, please join us on our journey towards a socially, ecologically and economically sustainable world.
